Upcoming Weekend Events 1/4-10

My first San Francisco events post of the new year. Several SF museums are having notable shows ending this month, so you've still got a bit of time if you need to plan. The SFMOMA Anselm Kiefer show ends Jan. 21. The De Young Museum's show of Ruth Asawa's Contours In The Air ends Jan 28th.

Next Tuesday & Wednesday (1/9-10) The Red Vic Moviehouse is playing Running With Scissors, the film based on the best-selling memoirs by Augusten Burroughs. Annette Bening as a bi-polar mother, Alec Baldwin as an alcoholic father, Brian Cox as therapist, Jill Clayburgh, Gwyneth Paltrow, Evan Rachel Wood, and Joeseph Fiennes round out the cast.

The not-for profit organization SFJazz has released their Spring 2007 season lineup. I'm more excited about it than the last couple. Personal notables include: Dianne Reeves, Anoushka Shankar, Dave Brubeck Quartet & Big Band, McCoy Tyner, and Paula West. I was lucky enough to see Diane Reeves her last time through. Her scat singing is tremendous and she offers a truly wonderful performance. Now If we could have Shankar and her half-sister (Norah Jones) on stage together... Wow. Wouldn't that be something?

What else? Dylan Boutique (Vallejo @ Polk) is having a blowout sale up to 80% off Jill Stuart, Anna Sui, Webster, and others (thru Jan 14th).

The Tubes are playing The Independent tomorrow (Friday) night $20. How much you wanna bet they'll be playing She's A Beauty? Yeah, better than even odds.

Don't forget The Palo Alto Art Walk is tomorrow evening (the First Friday of each month, 6-9 pm). Cheers.
