Essential FIREFOX Extensions for 2007.

Okay, first... How do you hide an elephant? I have no idea, but all those clever folks at Worth1000.com have some suggestions. If you are a fan of photo manipulation a la Photoshop, it's definitely worth a visit to check out some serious talent.

If you're able to find some content you like on my blog, would you consider leaving a comment to let me know? You can also subscribe to my feed with FeedBlitz (link in right sidebar). A subscription to my feed will send you an e-mail with any posts I've made for the day.

No spam, no sharing of your e-mail addy, no ads, just an rss e-mail. Simply enter your e-mail addy and you'll receive my posts as rss feeds in your mailbox! (each night between midnight and 3 am Pacific Time).

Before I continue, I'll state again (for the record), that every site I link to or write about I've checked out personally. Like below, all these Firefox extensions are on my computer and being used. I also do not receive any compensation for this blog from anybody. Therefore, my opinions are unbiased and my intention is to offer fair assessments (of products, websites, experiences).

Enough ranting...
Okay, I've blogged plenty about how great Firefox is... It offers so much control and versatility over your internet experience. Seriously, if you aren't using it- you should be. I've recently upgraded to Firefox 2.0 and couldn't be happier. Below is a list of my extensions, which I just couldn't do without. I've sorted through a gazillion pages of add-ons and extensions, and I'm listing my faves for you.

  • Adblock Plus: No more unwanted ads! Seriously, you can choose another's Adblock profile, I just left it alone and am setting as I go.
  • IE View: If a site just won't navigate in Firefox, you can load it in Internet Explorer or set it to always load in IE. When you need it (not often), it's amazing.
  • PDF Download: gives you options for what to do with a PDF file: open as html, open as pdf, download pdf. Adds great viewing options for those menus or white papers (technical write-ups).
  • Foxy Tunes: while I don't always use this, I like that I don't have to leave a web page to control my music. The new player has even more features like lyric look-up and artist info. Put a music controller right on your web page status bar.
  • Download Statusbar: So helpful! shows progress of download in statusbar, shows completed downloads, and offers a more compact download sidebar. Great extension!
  • StumbleUpon: I've blogged about this before, it's a great way to find new things online, from images to topics. Be prepared to spend serious amounts of time if you start using it. You will have to download their application separately, but it's secure and stable.
  • Answers: yet another reference feature that you just r-click on a word and can look up info immediately! How come we dint have this stuff when I was in school?!
  • Searchbar Autosizer: I love this because it resizes the search bar as you type, so you can view more of what you're inputting. My searchbar has (in order from top): Google, imdb.com, Websters, Answers, Wikipedia, Weather, eBay, Yahoo, Amazon, Creative Commons. Pretty much I can search anything quickly from the page I'm on. Brilliant!
  • Map This: this has got to be one of my faves. Not because I use it the most (Mouse Gestures I clearly use most), but because it saves so much navigating when I do use it. Simply highlight an address (or even partial address) and it will help map it for you in a separate tab with Google Maps.
  • Tab X: I'm not a big fan of tabbed browsing, but it has its uses. Like if you're getting away from a topic and want to see your search path. Tab X puts a small "close tab" button on each tab, to make your life lots simpler.
  • Mouse Gestures: It may take a bit of time to get comfortable with some of the gestures... But that trade off is nothing to be able to eat ice cream in one hand while you open new pages, navigate and surf all using just your mouse. Or something like that.
That's it. Hope this helps. cheers.
