New York State of Mind

I guess I'm missing New York more and more these days: the people, the vibe, the creative energy, the ambition, the realness.

Occasionally I'll be asked who my favorite designers are... Well, here are the Menswear Spring Collections for 2007. Maybe this is a sign I'm getting older, but the models definitely don't look the part. And this look from my fave designers like Jil Sander, Costume National, and Dries van Noten? What's up with that? Yohji has a good look this season, and I like some of John Bartlett's pieces.

I miss strolling SoHo, Union Square, Chinatown, and Chelsea. I can't explain how much I'd love to grab an almond brioche from Ceci-Cela on Spring Street; or have Fried Won Tons and a #44 Sauteed Beef Noodles from Republic on UnionSquare West; or chill with a drink and bites at Pravda. I miss the beautiful courtyard of Rialto and their luscious soft-shell crab special this time of year.

There's a great blog about my beloved NYC here: The Gothamist. That'll help keep you tuned in even when you're tuned out some 3,000 miles away (like myself).

Have you ever visited 43places? 43places.com is a site that is well, many sites within a site... pick a place you'd like to go, and see lots of photos and topics. It's a pretty interesting thing, worth a visit.

Seriously, what has New York got that we haven't (here in SF)? Wow. That's a long list. But, I'll tell you one thing... Opening Sept. 28th we'll have a new Adidas Concept Store, and that's one less thing The Big Apple will have on us! Cheers.
