Fashion, Film, and Blog News

You heard it here first.... Or maybe you didn't.

San Francisco Fashion Week is August 23-27, so plan your paychecks accordingly. Actually, being that the former SF Fashion Center is now Adobe/Macromedia/Sega or whatever offices... It is now (and for the last many years, I suppose) held in the San Francisco Design Center. Ah, I remember back when I worked 30 hour weekends producing these shows, but those days are long gone. L-o-o-o-o-n-g. Yup. Gone. I haven't gone to this event since I stopped producing the shows- but should be kewl.

More fashion news you ask? Okay, Blue Jeans Bar San Francisco (on Union Street) is holding a Jeans Drive to donate your old jeans for savings (until 8/31). One pair gets you 10% off, two pair gets you 15% off, three-of-a-kind (oops, three pairs) gets you 20% off your next purchase. All donations go to local shelters. "Hey, how's that homeless guy wearing some swank selvage jeans? Hmmm"

We San Franciscans tend to be very proud of our "City By the Bay." And why shouldn't we be? My own personal tagline for San Francisco is: "Big city feel, small city appeal." But what was the last big budget film actually shot here. X-Men 3 doesn't count (dvd release date 10/3) that was all in Vancouver and Richmond, BC... The Incredible Hulk? Puh-leeze. The Will Smith film shot here (last year by Lafayette Park and other locations) "In Pursuit of Happyness" should be out sometime...I'm guessing October-ish. Now, we'll also have a film based on the Zodiac Killer in the '60's and 70's to represent our lovely city in 35mm's of violence. Great. Just what I so didn't need. Maybe it'll be good(?), like Silence of the Lambs or Seven. Dunno.

For those that think demonstrations are more impressive than news, here's a link on how to open a (beer) bottle with a piece of paper. Wow, "Bartender! How about a ream of paper, please."

This article (from The Observer) is very well written: Websites That Changed The World. We've celebrated the 25th anniversary of the computer, and here's what we've got to show for it (among other things we overlook daily).

Technorati.com claims there are some 51 million blogs out there today and the quantity is doubling every six-months. Two blogs are created every second. I'm gonna try optimizing my blog, to see what- if any- results it has on page views. Results in a week or so. If you are interested in starting a blog, here's

my Starter Kit of Advice...
  • Blog at least a couple times a week. I get 50+ unique visitors when I post, about 1/4 that on days I don't post. If you won't post 3-plus times a week, maybe it's not for you.
  • This article is pretty sound advice... All of it. Maybe overkill if you're not looking for a gazillion visitors though.
  • "The Basics" are pretty much covered here. Maybe a bit overgeneralized, but good nonetheless.
  • Last, I use Blogger, but WordPress is also very popular, easy, and successful.
Now, I'm gonna start trying ping-o-matic and blogwise.com from above. Let's see what happens. Validator.w3.org shows 202 html errors on my blog! Geez. My current Technorati rank is 1,147,356. BUT, it hasn't updated to show my last FOUR posts (3 days ago), so go figure (if peeps can find my blog)? Cheers.
