Events August 03-06 in SF

Okay, so I lied. I'm actually gonna start with a book I'm currently reading. It's called The Hit and is by Jere Hoar. This was his first novel, and got incredible reviews. I'm gonna ask you to complete a third line in this quote (below)...

"I eased the phone into its cradle and stood very still, trying to think calm thoughts. Scratched in the metal were three lines, painted over, but still legible. The first said, "God is Dead," signed, "Nietzsche." A little to the left was, "Nietzsche is dead," signed "God." Below, it said, "_______."

Well, okay, I don't really get any responses from all the blog viewers, (over 1,000 visitors here and only one comment). So, you can add a third line in your head.

I was at Green Apple Books rummaging their bargain bins and this was one of my finds. At $2, I call that a deal. I just finished reading The Courage Consort by Michael Faber. It's three unrelated short stories. Only the second story The Hundered and Ninety-Nine Steps seemed even relatively interesting. I felt strongly disappointed with each of the endings.

Okay peeps. Here's some fresh goings-ons in SF through the weekend:

I'm adding a late, uh.... addition. yup. The Palo Alto Art Walk is something I just came across today (Friday) and it is the FIRST Friday of each month (toDAY). Enjoy strolling through 16 art galleries, nibbles, entertainment and drinks for free. I'm gonna try to go, it's 6-9 pm. Heck, I might even blend in (with all the oil paint all over my hands).

Kelly Clarkson is performing tonite at the Shoreline Ampitheatre. Santana is there on Saturday.

This unique multimedia performance is here for a short run, Remote.

The John Steinbeck Festival in his hometown of Salinas is happenin' this weekend.

I'm gonna need to apologize to a friend, who I claimed (falsely) that I had blogged about StumbleUpon... I haven't. It is a Firefox extension (and now available for IE!). You may think you are a power-user of Firefox or internet. But this free, downloadable app is truly remarkable. You can find ("stumble upon") so many interesting websites, pictures, and other topics using their very configurable program. You can also spend a lot of time on it. So, check it out, it is worth using. It's really kewl.

Did you feel the earthquake last nite? 4.4 magnitude based in Santa Rosa. Kira and I felt it. Here's where to find recent seismic activity. I will briefly say, that if a "big one" is coming... Let's hope we can prepare. I don't necessarily mean food supplies, first aid, water, etc. I mean DOG food, peeps.

Some have already heard me "preach" about this, I'm sure. But I was in NYC during 9/11, and it was no fun I can promise you. I remember grocery stores like Gristede's with not a thing on the shelves- nothing! I also know that it would be difficult to feed my dog, Kira, if I didn't have food for her. And supplies will go very quickly if a disaster were to strike. Since Kira is only 20 pounds and eats about 2/3 cup of food a day, I always buy two 15 pound bags and replenish when I have more than half of one bag left. And treats! I always have an extra bag of Charlee Bears and tub of chicken jerky wafers. I'll buy more of these things anyways, so it seems better to have a bit extra on-hand for her. Cheers.
